What's inside

Five ways to find your feet.

The funny stuff that gets you in the door, and the serious stuff that actually helps you settle.

Phrase Deck

What people say, and what they really mean underneath the politeness.

Real Life

A field guide to the moments nobody warns you about — the queue, the round, the tea run.

The Queue

Everything you have to set up to exist here — 35 tasks, in the order you actually need them.

The Noticeboard

Hand-picked links worth keeping, from the genuinely useful to the just-so-you-know.

Trophy Room

Quiet milestones as the whole country slowly starts to make sense.

In your language

Built for newcomers — available in Polish, Romanian, Hindi and Chinese too.

The serious part

Starting a life from zero is not a to-do list.

You arrive with no credit history, no NHS number, no National Insurance number, and no idea which of these you need first. Nobody sits you down and explains the order. The Queue does — 35 tasks across seven categories, each one told plainly, with what it costs, how long it takes, and what you'll need to hand.

01 Finance & BankingAn account, a credit score that starts at nothing, council tax, self assessment.
02 Healthcare & NHSRegistering with a GP, your NHS number, a dentist, and 111 versus 999.
03 Housing & UtilitiesEnergy, broadband, contents insurance, and the supplier you inherit whether you like it or not.
04 Identity & DocumentsThe paperwork that proves you're allowed to be here — and where it all lives.
05 Work & EmploymentPayslips, PAYE, your rights, and what the numbers on that payslip actually mean.
06 Travel & Getting AroundDriving licences, rail cards, and the transport rules nobody states out loud.
07 Children & EducationSchools, places, and the deadlines you find out about far too late.
A look inside

See it before you spend a penny.

The decoder, the field guide and the life-admin checklist — here's what you're actually getting.

Why it exists

We're a British husband and a Taiwanese wife. One of us grew up with all of this and never had to think about it. The other arrived and had to work out an entire unspoken country from scratch — the phrases that don't mean what they say, the rules nobody writes down, and an avalanche of paperwork that turns up with no instructions.

Online communities got us through the visa years. Everything else about settling in, you're mostly left to guess at. So we built the guide we wish we'd had.
